Constable/Bugler Imtiyaz Ahmed was a member of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), serving with 82 Battalion, CRPF. He was born on 1 July 1976 and hailed from Village Umarganj, Post Office Behri, District Ballia, Uttar Pradesh. His force number was 970820021, and the CRPF record identifies Smt. Salma Khatoon (Mother) as his next of kin.
In 2000, 82 Battalion CRPF was deployed in Jammu & Kashmir in the counter-insurgency environment. According to the CRPF's official Warriors Remembered account, on 20 September 2000, Imtiyaz Ahmed was deployed on area-domination duty. During the patrol, militants opened automatic fire on the CRPF troops. Imtiyaz Ahmed retaliated and forced the attackers to retreat. During the engagement, the militants hurled grenades at him, causing serious splinter injuries. He succumbed to those injuries and attained martyrdom in the line of duty. The CRPF publication records his courage as a benchmark for the force.
A later tribute published by the CRPF's official account also remembers Ct/Bug Imtiyaz Ahmed of 82 Bn CRPF among personnel who made the supreme sacrifice in Jammu & Kashmir in September 2000. That tribute describes the cause as a grenade attack by militants in Srinagar and gives 18 September 2000 as the date. This differs from the detailed Warriors Remembered entry, which records 20 September 2000 and describes an area-domination patrol followed by automatic fire and grenade attacks. Because the official sources conflict on these incident particulars, the detailed CRPF publication is the safer source for the database's date and narrative.
