Lance Naik Mahipal Singh was born on 5 February 1966 in Govindpur village of Chhajlat, Moradabad district, Uttar Pradesh. He served in the Central Reserve Police Force and was posted with the 122nd Battalion, which was deployed in Jammu and Kashmir during the period of intensified counter-militancy operations.
On 27 September 2000, CRPF personnel were conducting an operation at Parimpora in Budgam district after receiving information about the presence of an armed militant. The troops established a cordon around a suspected house and began moving towards the location. Lance Naik Mahipal Singh immediately responded to the attack and continued engaging the militants. During the exchange, a grenade exploded near him, causing severe injuries. Despite being badly wounded, he refused to stop fighting. He continued firing towards the militants and used his position to provide covering fire while directing his fellow personnel to move away from the immediate danger.
The militants continued their attack with gunfire and grenades, and Lance Naik Mahipal Singh eventually succumbed to his injuries. He made the supreme sacrifice while performing his duties in Jammu and Kashmir on 27 September 2000.
